Northglenn United Church
of Christ has begun the installation of a memorial garden on their grounds
located at 105th and Grant. Volunteers have planted approximately 25
perennials in the garden so far with plans for another 75 perennials to be
planted in 2008. The garden also has several trees and flagstone benches in
it. The landscape plans were designed by Shelley Breitenbach and Mary Kay
Birdwhistell of Garden Country in Broomfield.
The garden surrounds the
church's
outdoor labyrinth which is also available for community use. Labyrinths are
ancient walking meditation pathways that have been used for thousands of years
by many different religious traditions. Rahven Kemper, a church member, states
"Not
only is the labyrinth a place of healing and makes one feel enlightened, but the
memorial plants bring it alive with beauty and spirit."
She adds, "When
I go to the labyrinth, I feel the spirit of God. But with the memorial plants,
others'
spirits will live on, too."
Currently, there are monthly labyrinth group walks organized to occur around the
full moon. The next one will be led by Kae
Madden who is a priest with Church of the Beloved, an independent Catholic
church.
Members of the
community are welcome to purchase the remaining perennials that are to be
planted in 2008. At the cost of $25.00 per plant, they will be planted in a
designated spot in the garden and will include a metal plant label that
memorializes their loved one. The contact person is Anne Powell at
303-457-1623.
